SisterLove, Inc Partners with Groups to Raise Awareness for Triple-Negative Breast Cancer
SisterLove, Inc. Breast Health Awareness Event
SisterLove, Inc. partnered with Dr. BK Edmond and The BK Edmond Project, Women With a Vision (WWAV), and Dr. Mausiki Scales of Common Ground Collective to host a breast health awareness event during the Essence Festival in New Orleans. The event was part of the NANA Project, an 18-month initiative funded by Gilead Sciences, with the goal of engaging Black people living with or survivors of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC).
The event was held at Le Muse'e: A House Museum Honoring the Legacy of New Orleans Free People of Color and featured a talk by Dr. BK Edmond on breast health and self-breast exam demonstrations. WWAV led a panel discussion on TNBC with local survivors, and Mausiki Scales and the Common Ground Collective performed their unique blend of afrobeat, funk, hip-hop, and jazz fusion.
The second awareness event, tailored for locals, was held at a private residence near the French Quarter. SisterLove staff led the event, which included open and transparent conversations about TNBC. Attendees received autographed copies of Dr. BK Edmond's book, “Nana and the Bushwoman”, NANA branded tee-shirts, and an authentic Louisiana-inspired gourmet meal.
The event also featured talks by SisterLove's Sybil Miller, Director of Communications, Tamika English, Source Leadership Manager and Board Chair, and Dr. Cedric Pulliam. The home was beautifully decorated by Dwight Eubanks, best known for his appearances on The Real Housewives of Atlanta and his internationally known hair salon, The Purple Door.
