SisterLove stands with women after the end of the election night as the right to female bodily autonomy was on the ballot throughout the nation.
On a state and federal level, reproductive justice advocacy organizations like SisterLove have watched as lawmakers try to strengthen abortion laws. We have also seen laws, like Georgia’s six-week ban on abortion, go into effect. The November 8, 2022 election was so important to reproductive justice because women’s right to choose was a key issue.
Brian Kemp, the incumbent governor of Georgia, will govern for another four years and Republicans remain the majority party in the Georgia General Assembly. These two wins mean a stricter abortion bill will probably be considered by the Georgia General Assembly and that it is likely to be signed by Governor Kemp.
Republican John King was reelected as Insurance Commissioner which means that we will continue to see increases in medical insurance premiums (link) and no expansion on Medicaid. Chris Carr, a vocal prolife candidate, remains the state’s attorney general. His job, enforce the six-week ban on abortion.

Even though we lost chances to elect prochoice candidates in Georgia, it is evident that prochoice voters were in the voting both nationwide (link). In Georgia, the U.S. Senate race remains in the balance. Senator Raphael Warnock had a very narrow lead over Herschel Walker. The two will need to participate in a runoff election on December 6, 2022. Find your polling place for the Georgia Senate Runoff Election. Whoever wins this election will likely determine which party will take control of the U.S. Senate.
The pro-choice vote was also evident because republicans did not take vast control over the U.S. (insert election map widget) Congress as experts predicted. Finally, reproductive justice won ballot measures in five states in the U.S. One thing that is certain about the November 8th election is that reproductive justice made a valiant effort to make its voice heard.
